On this episode of EduRoadTrip, we marveled at the Golden Gate Bridge, and talked with Richard Hattal about bridging the gap between traditional and 21st century classrooms. We learned about the Literacy Design Collaborative, which provides students with interdisciplinary learning experiences and scaffolded writing. Additionally, we featured our Travel Agent, Allison Kerley, and found Plickers in our suitcase.

Main Segment
We interviewed Richard Hattal at the Golden Gate Bridge, and discussed bridging traditional with 21st century classrooms. He spent his career (22 years!) in the US Air Force, then went back to school to earn a teaching degree. Richard’s classroom is very connected with other classrooms, and allows students to chat with many professionals in a variety of fields. He talks about the Literacy Design Collaborative, which bridges all content areas to create engaging and real-life lessons that scaffold learning and support the writing process.

What’s In Our Suitcase
Plickers (paper clickers) is a great student response tool for classrooms that are not 1:1. Each student gets a Plickers card, and holds up the card to indicate A B C or D, and the teacher scans the room with a smartphone or tablet. www.plickers.com
