What’s in our Suitcase:
This week we pulled Google Keep out of our suitcase. Google Keep is a clean and concise to-do list and note-making platform, where all lists are arranged as tiles, and are easy to interact with. Even better, to-do lists can be shared with multiple Google users, making managing group projects easy.

ERT007: Library of Congress with Jennifer Williams - A Love of Reading




On this episode of EduRoadTrip, we are meeting with Jen Williams at the Library of Congress to discuss the love of reading and literacy. Jen shared about her work with Calliope Global, and her mission of sharing her love of reading with students and adults alike. We also feature Erin Southam as our Travel Agent, and pull Autocrat out of our suitcase.

We met with Jen Williams at the Library of Congress to discuss books, a love of reading, and connecting students globally. She explains her journey as an educator starting with the science of reading and moving into the artform of reading.

Erin Southam is a librarian at Hilltop Middle School in Chula Vista, CA. She is very techy, and leads quite a few student clubs, including an incredible Harry Potter club that includes students divided into houses, and completing challenges for house points. What’s In Our Suitcase
This week we feature Autocrat, a Google Add-On for Sheets, which allows for a mail-merge function, including populating a Google Doc with answers to a Google Form or Sheet. Autocrat also allows for users to email completed mail merges to separate email addresses. EduRoadTrip has used Autocrat to create a Mad Libs of our show, where you can take part in the show! ERT006: Golden Gate Bridge with Rich Hattal - Bridging Modern and Traditional Teaching



On this episode of EduRoadTrip, we marveled at the Golden Gate Bridge, and talked with Richard Hattal about bridging the gap between traditional and 21st century classrooms. We learned about the Literacy Design Collaborative, which provides students with interdisciplinary learning experiences and scaffolded writing. Additionally, we featured our Travel Agent, Allison Kerley, and found Plickers in our suitcase.

We interviewed Richard Hattal at the Golden Gate Bridge, and discussed bridging traditional with 21st century classrooms. He spent his career (22 years!) in the US Air Force, then went back to school to earn a teaching degree. Richard’s classroom is very connected with other classrooms, and allows students to chat with many professionals in a variety of fields. He talks about the Literacy Design Collaborative, which bridges all content areas to create engaging and real-life lessons that scaffold learning and support the writing process.

Plickers (paper clickers) is a great student response tool for classrooms that are not 1:1. Each student gets a Plickers card, and holds up the card to indicate A B C or D, and the teacher scans the room with a smartphone or tablet. www.plickers.com
